「チャット見たよ。祝い、これ着ていく？」恵美は、葵の椅子に掛けてある紺のジャケットを指した。「新しいの、買おうかなって」「その前に、一回着てみて」
葵がジャケットを着ると、恵美は白いシャツのを少し出した。「このくらい見せると、手元が明るくなるでしょ。よ」左右の長さまでそろえてもらい、葵は自分のを見た。いつもより、きちんと仕事ができる人に見える気がした。
「これなら、新しく買わなくていいね」「で、土曜に何かおいしいもの頼もう」恵美はそう言って笑った。葵もうなずいた。服の話をしている間は、金曜の結果を忘れていられた。
ここで働く春が、二人の紅茶を運んできた。「発表は、まだなんだけど」葵はそう言ったものの、恵美は「じゃあ、まだね」と答えた。「で、いつから新しいになるの？」「それも、まだ聞いてなくて」
しばらくして、恵美が席を立った。「下は今のパンツで十分。買わなくていいからね」恵美はそう言って店を出た。葵はジャケットを脱がずにいた。
春が空いたカップを下げに来た。「葵、そのものは、の？」
