Why I started Yomi Daily

I studied Japanese in college and spent a semester studying abroad in Japan before Covid. That experience made me want to work in Japan after graduation. My first job here was teaching English in Hokkaido. I’ve lived in Tokyo since 2023, and I’ve passed JLPT N1.

Even after years of studying, I struggled to find a way of reading regularly that I wanted to stick with. I wanted something enjoyable enough to return to, with help available when I got stuck.

That’s why I’m making Yomi Daily: short installments, familiar characters, and a story you want to continue. My hope is that following these friends gives you a reason to read a little Japanese each day. I hope you enjoy finding out what happens to them.

Stories, with help alongside.

The current story follows six established friends in Kichijoji, Tokyo. Each weekly episode unfolds in seven daily parts, with a recap, vocabulary, grammar notes, and optional practice.

The current edition is for learners around N3 working toward N2. It is supplemental reading practice, not a complete exam course or a prediction of your JLPT result. The daily newsletter will always be free.
