この街について

Kichijoji is one of western Tokyo’s most sought-after neighborhoods, popular with students as well as families. Direct trains connect it to Shinjuku on the JR Chuo Line and Shibuya on the Keio Inokashira Line, so life here can stay connected to the city while leaving room for a more local routine.

Several 商店街 (shopping streets) surround the station, each with a different character. To the north, Sun Road and Daiyagai bring together everyday shopping, food and fashion. Nearby, Harmonica Yokocho packs small bars and eateries into narrow alleys. South of the station, shops and cafés line the walk toward Inokashira Park.

For Yomi’s six friends, this is home: a neighborhood where work, errands and meeting up can happen within the same few streets. On this map, Kissaten Yorimichi sits along the shopping street between the station and the park.

From Kichijoji Station, the JR Chuo Line heads toward Shinjuku, while the Keio Inokashira Line connects directly to Shibuya. Outside the gates, two sides of the neighborhood open up: shopping streets to the north, and the walk toward Inokashira Park to the south.

Kissaten Yorimichi sits along the shopping street between Kichijoji Station and Inokashira Park. Haru works here, and it is a gathering place for the six friends. The name suggests a detour: stopping somewhere on the way to wherever you were meant to be going.

井の頭公園

Inokashira Park opened in 1917 as Japan’s first suburban park. Its pond once helped supply Edo with drinking water; today, its wooded paths and boats offer an easy place to linger.

The pond played a part in the city’s history long before the park opened. Water from its springs fed the Kanda waterworks, which supplied drinking water to Edo, the city that became Tokyo. What now feels like a retreat from the city once helped sustain it.
